Customizable update frequency

You control the update frequency of the chat system. If you're running SocialEngine on a lower-end server, decreasing update frequency helps consume fewer server resources.

Buddy list settings

You decide who your members can IM. You can set their buddy list to display just friends or all online members. The latter setting is useful for smaller sites where it makes sense for all members to communicate.
